What's Happening Now
The first home in East Wichel was occupied in April 2009. Over 150 homes, including 'affordable' and open market properties, have since been occupied.
The first phase of Sovereign Housing's affordable homes has been completed. Bryant Homes, George Wimpey and Bloor Homes have marketing suites on site. Barratt and David Wilson are now also active on site.
Taylor Wimpey is developing the internal roads in East Wichel and is in the process of submitting detailed planning applications for the housing parcels.
Contract 4, which completes the Spine Road between East and West Wichel, started on site in June 2009. The Contract also includes the second phase of the Croft Road to Hay Lane link road, along with construction of the new canal, noise bund and amenity lakes. Blackhorse Bridge will also be completed as part of this contract.
Landscaping works at Croft Road and Redposts Drive have commenced.
The first school on the site will be East Wichel Primary School. This is programmed to open in 2011. Building work has now begun.
